My name is Mark. I am a musician and event promoter. I play piano, bass, trombone, guitar, and I sing. I play many different genres of music, but my favorites are classical, gothic rock, and jazz. I compose music both for film and theater, and I write rock and electronic music. I currently perform with The Night Watch Jazz Band, Fireball, and in a classical duo with my twin brother Craig Winston.
I have performed with choirs and bands in Chicago, Denver, and New Mexico. I have been baritone soloist with Bella Voce, Lamont Chorale, Schola Cantorum Cathedralis at Holy Name Cathedral, and with DCINY at David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center, NYC. With The Dead Superheroes Orchestra and The Walking Shadows, I performed throughout the midwest, and in Boston and New Mexico. During my time in Chicago, I composed music for theater productions at The University of Chicago, Trapdoor Theater, and Piccolo Theater. I've written two musicals, recorded albums with Chicago Chorale, The Dead Superheroes Orchestra, The Walking Shadows, and Bella Voce (Brahms' Requiem on Naxos Records).
I build community through music, art, and film. I am the artistic director of Darkness Calling Productions. With DCP, I have produced Darkness Calling - A goth dance night; Fascination - A sketchbook night and listening lounge; and Scary Story Night - An evening of terror, soundscapes, and horrifying visuals. In my work with DCP, I wear many hats, such as graphic designer, videographer, music curator, photographer, and street team lead. You can see my design, video, and photography work throughout this website.
I earned a Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance from The Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver, a Bachelor of Arts in Music from The University of Chicago, and an AFA in Piano and Music Technology from The City Colleges of Chicago.
